my frontier developed a weird sound which I'm trying to eliminate. There's like a pinging sound, like metal ond metal, but the problem is that I only hear it when it's idling and evey time tha rpms go above 1k the sound disappears. Anyone experienced something similar?

it's not a sound you'll wanna hear. The easest this to check is if there are metal shields that is loose an causing the noise. On the other hand, it could be a loose exhaust manifold or a bad timing chain tensioner. I think that the frontier doesn't have an engine with a belt, so it's always a chain

Does the sound change when you shift the truck into gear or if it's only when it's in idle?

I had something similar on mine, man. turned out to be the timing chain tensioner beginning to malfunction. The same thing: ping at idle, exceeded 1,000. It might also be a lifter tick or a loose heat shield. Before going further, I would check those first. Update us

Where do you think the sound is coming from? We're gonna need that info so we can have an idea on how to diagnose. I don't know which exactly is being affected by that pinging sound. Is it coming from the front part? Or something? Worried it might be an underchassis issue.
